When do I need a permit, where do I get them, and how much do they cost?

  • A permit is required for removal of above ground or underground tanks over 500 gallons.  It can be picked up at the main fire station and there is a $25.00 fee.
  • A permit is required for anyone wishing to blast in the city.  The permit must be picked up at the main fire station prior to the blast.  There is a $25.00 fee.
  • A permit is required (except during the winter) for anyone wishing burn brush.  The permits can be picked up at either fire station.

During the summer months when the lookout towers are staffed, no burning is allowed until after 5:00 P.M. unless it is raining.During the winter months, when snow is on the ground, all you need to do is call the Fire Department at 335-7545 and provide information about where you are going to burn.  No permit is required when snow is on the ground.  You must own the land that you intend to burn on, or, if you do not own it, you must have written permission from the land owner.

Requirements:

A permit must be obtained from the Department of Building, Zoning, and Licensing Services for any Sprinkler work.  However the Fire Department must also be notified of the work and plans have to be submitted to the Fire Department for approval.  The fee structure is as follows: $10.00 for any work under $2,000.00 and $9.00 per thousand thereafter. There is also a $10.00 application fee.

There is also a $10.00 application fee.

There is also a $10.00 application fee.
