Lead Paint Remediation

New Hampshire Housing has federal funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that are granted out to assist owners of residential properties in addressing lead hazards within their properties. The grant targets those who are most in need, low-income families and owners not financially capable of making their properties “lead safe” on their own. Buildings must be built prior to 1978, the year lead-based paint was banned from use in residential units.

The New Hampshire Housing lead remediation program requires a minimum of 10% match from property owners, and the City of Rochester has funds available for Rochester low-income property owners who have trouble providing matching funds. To be eligible, the property owner's combined household income must be 80% or less of the area median income. If you are interested in learning more and/or applying for matching funds for a HUD lead remediation grant through New Hampshire Housing, please contact Rochester Community Development Coordinator at kiersten.wright@rochesternh.gov or 603-335-7519.
