Governor Sununu lifts ban on burning

Due to the extreme drought conditions in early October, Governor Sununu released an emergency proclamation that halted the burning of category I and II fires not contained in a fire-resistive ring, and banned category III and IV burning.

“With the recent rain, the proclamation has since been lifted,” said Deputy Chief Adam Hughes, Rochester Fire Department. “However, we ask that you use extreme caution when burning as the Rochester area and other parts of NH have not received nearly enough rain in the past two weeks to compensate for the drought.”

Hughes also urges citizens to use extreme caution; ensure fires are contained appropriately, and effectively manage and extinguish the fire. Anyone wishing to burn must have a permit, which can be obtained at www.nhfirepermit.com.
