Snow & how you can help DPW

Now that we have been through the snowiest December on record, here are a few tips to assist DPW to ensure safe and accessible roadways and sidewalks:

1)      Do not plow snow from your driveway across the road – not only is this very dangerous it is against the law!
2)      Do not block the sidewalk with snow
3)      During a snow or ice storm - if you don't need to go out, please stay home
4)      Snow emergencies are declared as necessary for each storm – when a snow emergency is declared, vehicles are not permitted to be parked on any City street or City parking lot without an exemption issued by the Police Department.
5)      Even if a snow emergency has not been declared, please do not park on the street if at all possible.
6)      Please do not follow plow trucks too closely, many accidents occur simply because the plow truck driver could not see a vehicle behind them because they were in the driver’s blind spot.  This is particularly important in parking lots and dead end streets.
7)      Remove items from the road such as basketball hoops, large rocks, fences, etc.

You can also help out the Fire Department by clearing around any fire hydrants near your home!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Department of Public Works.
